About Us

International Theological Education (ITE) is a service-based ministry responsible for ensuring that all ABWE related Bible colleges, seminaries and ministry training programs provide theological education and ministry training of the highest quality. ITE is administered by the International Coordinator for Theological Education. The goal of ITE is to enhance these ABWE related ministry training programs through:

  •   The development of common educational standards
  •   Faculty enrichment programs
  •   Web based networking of resources
  •   Periodic international conventions
  •   On-site consultations and training
  •   Centralized ABWE representation in partnership negotiations with North American Bible Colleges and Seminaries
  •   The recruitment of gifted theological educators for ministry in ABWE related training programs.

The International Coordinator is Dr. Dale Marshfield.  After serving 26 years as a missionary in Durban, South Africa, Dale moved to Harrisburg, PA in January 2009 to work out of the ABWE Home Office.  As a church planter, Dale started three Baptist churches which are today thriving as independent works under South Africa leadership.  He was also instrumental in the establishment of the Baptist Bible College of KwaZulu Natal (1995) and has played a significant role in the school as lecturer and board member.  Dr. Marshfield has taught on the college and seminary levels in schools on several continents.  He presently serves as a board member with several institutions in various parts of the world and as an adjunct faculty member at Asia Baptist Theological Seminary of Cornerstone University and the Baptist Bible College of KwaZulu Natal.

The Purpose of the ITE Website

  •  To offer resources that will enhance the teaching and mentoring of theological educators worldwide.
  •  To encourage and help teachers and institutions build their curriculum in light of the UbD model.
  •  To provide a syllabus database of courses related to theological education for comparison and suggestion for those
     designing their own curriculum.
  •  To provide a platform to network, collaborate, and discuss the issues we all face in training future leaders for Christ's
Church.  (Forums will be added in due time.)
  •  To facilitate the linking of available, experienced, cross-cultural theological educators with teaching needs in colleges and
seminaries of like faith and practice.  (See our doctrinal statement.)  (Future pages with feature modular & short term
teaching needs in associated institutions and the availability of ABWE appointed international educators.)

Wiggins and McTighe, (Understanding by Design, 2005:5) sum up our purpose well when they say,  "designers [of curriculum] need to work smarter, not harder, by sharing curriculum designs worldwide."
